The Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation felicitated meritorious students of Saurashtra and Kutch at an event organized in the city on Saturday.
Over 70 meritorious SSC and HSC district toppers from Jamnagar, Rajkot, Diu, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Kutch, Porbandar and Junagadh were presented with scholarships by chief guest Rajkot municipal commissioner Dinesh Brahmbhatt.
Addressing the gathering at city's Hemu Gadhvi auditorium, Brahmbhatt spoke on zero garbage living'. "If we want to realise former president APJ Abdul Kalam's vision of becoming a superpower by 2020, cleanliness is one of the important factors. As the youth of tomorrow, the children of today should learn civic sense. They should set an example and ensure to cleanliness of their surroundings," senior executive of Reliance Jamnagar SC Malhotra said in the welcome address.
The foundation annually presents SSC merit rewards and undergraduate scholarships to the first three meritorious students and one physically challenged student securing highest marks from each district of Gujarat and Union Territories.
Ten meritorious students from the state in the merit order list prepared by the CBSE, New Delhi, for secondary and senior secondary board examinations are also felicitated. This was the 14th annual felicitation programme.
The scholarships available under the scheme for HSC students range between Rs 9,750 and Rs 31,500 per annum for the entire duration of study leading to degree or diploma depending upon the professionally oriented courses pursued by the meritorious student.
